…Slow and Steady, Ellie Beth, Slow and Steady.
So far so good. Ellie’s temp has gone up a little so she has an ice pack on her head to bring it down. What with being a little puffy still and the ice pack, she looks like she has a bad hangover.
Besides that things are going well.
She has come off the paralysis drugs and is already trying to get those feet kicking. They still have her really sedated right now and want to keep her that way through the night. Even with all the drugs, we got the joy of seeing her open her eyes for a few seconds today. Seeing her move makes it seem more like we are getting Ellie back.
The plan is to go through the night monitoring things. If everything stays steady tonight they will think about pulling out her LA (left arterial) line tomorrow and maybe start weaning her off the ventilator.
After all that, then they will start waking her up.

Wiggling piggy toes and kicking feet . . . This little piggy went to Nordstrums, and this little piggy stayed home, and this little piggy had caviar, and this little piggy had none, and this little piggy went WHEE, WHEE, WHEE, can’t wait until Ellie Beth gets home! We are delighted with her progress. One little piggy at a time, step by step she’s getting there. What a joy to read about her as this miracle is revealed to us all. Godspeed, Jim & Sandra. I’m glad we have the magic of the internet to keep us with you through this. It seems nothing short of magical what they are doing for Ellie right now too. She is an amazing little girl and she is lucky to have the wonderful parents that she has. Go left ventricle go! We’re praying for a perfect “10″!
I had a dream the other night where Ellie was talking to me from her hospital bed. She was articulate, spirited, & happy, and she couldn’t stop talking about her parents (whom she called her “Boohbahs”).
Ellie, I work with your Nanny Sandra. All of us in Virginia are pleased with your progress…”you’ve come a long way baby” and we thank your parents for sharing your remarkable journey with us. I know that your Nanny Sandra and Grandfather Jim are on their way to be by your side and we wish them Godspeed.

I am sooo happy for you two and so relieved for Ellie! This is such great news! You know, it is probably best that she does this really slowly because now she is stregnthing her heart slowly. And as we all know, it is better to work a muscle slowly over time then right away! But I have a feeling she will be up and running you two in circles before you know it!!! One really good thing out of all of this is that you and Ken are soooo close now and so strong. Not that you weren’t before, but I would think that this has brought you closer than you would have imagined. Karin and I were just talking about that. She sendes her best wishes as well and often asks about you. I am just so happy. And I can imagine that when she opened her eyes it was almost like the biggest miracle touched your heart. I know that there is still concern but it seems like she is on her way up! We are still praying for you! LOTS!
