Mummy’s Lap

How’s that for progress?! There’s no better medicine than mummy cuddles. Click here or on the picture to see two larger photos from this morning.

Surprisingly, Ellie had a nice calm night. I walked Colleen over to the Devon Nicole House last night so she could get a good night’s sleep and when I got back, Ellie was awake and hungry. I got to feed her a bottle. I know it’s silly to get emotional over such a simple thing, but just being able to feed her got me a little weepy. So imagine Colleen’s delight when she got here this morning and the surgeon, Dr. Pigula, said, “Why don’t we get her out of bed.”

She’s off most of the medications she was on, including the morphine. So, she’s not even dopey. She still gets some Tylenol for the pain. The line in her jugular came out last night and more come out today (see scorecard below).

Everyone’s real pleased with how things are going.

Oh, sweet baby breath! This is such a sight for sore eyes! Ken, those misty eyes are absolutely appropriate. Colie looks elated, and Jim & Sandra have such joyful looks on their faces. Ellie just looks beautiful.

This morning, a song entitled “My Tribute” just kept going through my head. Indulge me, if you will, a few of the lyrics . . .

How can I say thanks, for the things you have done for me? Things so undserved, yet you gave to prove your love for me. The voices of a million angels coudl not express my gratitude. All that I am and ever hope to be, I owe it all to Thee. To God be the glory. To God be the glory. To God be the glory, for the things He has done. With his blood He has saved me. With his power, He has raised me. To God be the glory, for the things he has done.

To God be the glory, indeed!

Nothing better than seeing mommy holding little Ellie! That IS the best medicine. So glad that things are going so well. It brings a smile to our hearts. Glad to hear she’s off the moriphine and wanting to eat. That is definetly a very GREAT sign of Ellie’s recovery. We are still praying for all three of you and hope that you will be home very soon.

    Ken, Colly and Ellie

The pictures brought me to tears seeing Ellie in Colleen’s arms again, she is looking bright and you must be very relieved that the worst is over, but knowing you still have a way to go.

Glad now that Sandra is there giving you both some support, and seeing all the replies you have lots of caring friends.

Spoke to Mum and Jack just now to give them the update and they both asked me to send their love and that they are thinking of you and hope to speak to you when you get home.

Take care both of you and give that little one lots of hugs and kisses she deserves them for what she has had to go through, but most of all don’t forget each other you need hugs too.

    Lots and lots of love
    Anne, Howard and Charlotte xx

Colleen/Ken/Ellie: Tears are very appropriate for this occasion. Wayne just walked out, saying, I can’t imagine going through this with one of my grandchildren. He had tears, too. I “ditto” Alice’s indulgence. To God Be the Glory, Great things He has done. Ellie appears to be the benefactor. Never forget when she is driving you crazy as a teenager, that she is and will always be very special….. Love you Polly Anne and Wayne

There could not be a more tender photo than that of Colleen and Ellie; especially knowing the history. I can’t wait to tell Jan when he comes home! I would have to say that that one photo holds a thousand words and evokes so much elation that it is hard to not feel choked up. I am so immensly happy for the three of you. You have fought a very long hard battle but held on and believed in the positive outcomes. I admire you both a lot and could not feel more joy and happiness for you both than I do now. I am just so happy.
