Off we went to the hospital today for Ellie’s appointment with the heartman (Dr. Asnes). Hospital days are always hard, first is the echo and ekg (which she did really well with today), then we have to wait for the doctor and see what he sees in the echo and ekg and today Ellie also had to give blood -which just sucks and is never fun.
The latest is that Ellie is going in for a cardiac cath. at the end of Aug or beginning of Sept. The heartman wants it done sooner rather than later so that we can make a decision on her next season before RSV season kicks hits. So, it looks like she will have her next heart surgery sometime this fall.
It still looks like they are going to do the Glenn Shunt and the Fontan. Hopefully after the cardiac cath, we will have a better idea of what exactly is going on with her heart and a firm decision can be made on what the next surgery will be. Her heart doctor said they will review her results here in New Haven and he also said he will send her information and results to Boston Children’s Hospital for them to review as well.
Another reason the heartman feels surgery needs to take place soon is because Ellie isn’t gaining weight. In the month since we have seen him she has gained 2 cm but is the exact same weight she was last month – 7.22kg or 16lbs. The doc thinks that the next surgery might actually help her grow.
It looks like it is going to be a crazy next few months. What else is new…
